Texas Performance Standards Project Phase 1
After an intense day of training, you should be game planning or already entrenched in Phase 1 where the teacher is leading the experiences. How is this Phase going? Where are you finding the best place to fit these experiences in? Are you seeing students in your class responding to the activities?

phase 1 is going great! i'm really putting into place all the tools we created together! how are other 5th grade classes using their concepts? it would be nice to compare.
I'm finding the resources offered in the TPSP document useful, however it is still a bit of a struggle fitting it in to what I am already doing. How is everyone else fitting it all together?
in regards to the previous comment - because we are in the second part of the year you have a couple of options. you can use the remainder of this year to "test out" your phase one activities so that when you use them next year you will practiced and ready to roll. the other option would be to shorten the timeline and use a few weeks to get into some phase 1 activities and then roll right into phase 2, which is the independent product. bear in mind, not all of your students are going to complete phase 2 if that is not appropriate for the students in your classroom. please post what you decide to do, it would be useful to hear how it goes.
I didn't really get started with TPSP in the fall because I was trying to find my bearings as a new teacher. Can I start Phase I now?
in response to the previous post when the new teacher talked about not getting to start phase 1, i think you have a few options open to you. first of all, it is understandable that as a first year teacher you can feel a bit overwhelmed, but don't throw this to the back of the file and forget it! here are some options that you might consider.
you could use the rest of this year to use phase 1 activities in your class and hone your skills with them. there are fantastic lessons and activities that will enrich your classroom. if you go this route, you will be ready to roll when next year starts.
another option would be to shorten the amount of phase 1 activities that will allow time for student to be exposed to the phase 2 product, however be careful with this one. you know your students best and the accelerated time line might not be what is best for some students.
the last option that i can think of would be to gather your resources and game plan so that next year can be well planned out and you will be able to hit the ground running.
just a few of my thoughts, what does everyone else think?
be sure to let us know what you decide.
